Description

In the context of the electrical industry, DfMA is an approach best described as “improving quality through the application of efficiency and performance.” Seeking to find the most efficient way of delivering a project inevitably reduces the resources required whether this is measured in cost, time, carbon footprint, waste, or labor. This also increases positive aspects such as health and safety in construction, quality, and environmental performance. It also deals with the use of energy efficient lighting systems in residential, commercial, and industrial establishments as well as their maintenance.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. To determine the importance of using DfMA in the lighting industry
  2. To recall the principle involved in the lighting systems and current practices
    • To identify the standard that provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings
    • To discuss the safety, health, environmental concerns regarding lighting systems
    • To classify different products to be used
    • To design a lighting layout using Computer-aided lighting design software
  3. To describe the concept lighting system maintenance, energy audit and economic analysis
    • To execute a life-long learning via progress toward completion of an advance degree
    • To demonstrate a professional development education or industrial training courses

  1. To refresh students with the fundamentals of lighting and the basics of indoor/outdoor lighting design and review the current practices in the industry related to DfMA
