Description
Discussion of the fundamental concepts, principles and dimensions of Sustainable Development (SD); Discussion of the science of SD: Industrial Ecology and its application in Green Engineering; Discussion of tools used to implement SD; Discussion of Life Cycle Assessment
ENTRY COMPETENCIES of Participants (Prerequisites):
Any personnel in a company considered working on design and Engineering operations who are interested in integrating sustainability in his work or design. Basic knowledge in ecology and in industrialization are need in order to apply in the design and engineering process.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
This course aims to correlate the fundamental concepts, principles and dimensions of SD, its science and its tools to the most recent techniques and operations in design and in Engineering processes. It also aims to instill appreciation and awareness to the trainees how to improve the sustainability of design and Engineering processes using general principles of green Chemistry and Green Engineering, and enhance his decision skills where and when to apply the improvement. This course can be applied to a range of industries, as well as a range of roles or niches, specifically in construction industry.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
After completing the course, the trainee must be able to:
- recognize the fundamental concepts, principles, and dimensions of SD, its science: Industrial Ecology and its application in Green Engineering;
- assess the environmental impact and risk assessment of an Engineering design and process using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) components: inventory analysis, impact analysis and improvement analysis;
- create an Engineering design or process that minimizes and prevents emissions and wastes thru management control, recycling, treatment and proper disposal
