Description

In the context of the construction industry, DfMA is an approach best described as “improving quality through the application of efficiency and performance.” Seeking to find the most efficient way of delivering a project inevitably reduces the resources required whether this is measured in cost, time, carbon footprint, waste, or labor. This also increases positive aspects such as health and safety in construction, quality, and environmental performance.

ENTRY COMPETENCIES of Participants (Prerequisites):

A participant should be an Engineer with experience in Design and/ or Construction Industry.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. To determine the importance of using DfMA in the construction industry
  2. To examine the effects of earthquake to the structures and its components
    • To Identify the safety measures during an earthquake
    • To understand the concepts of each prefabricated parts before, during and after the occurrence of seismic events
    • To implement safety on the assembly of precast concrete members and members and elements under seismic conditions
  3. To design a structure composed of prefabricated components utilizing the principles of DfMA under seismic conditions
  4. To evaluate the assembling procedure of the Precast Concrete member that took place in the construction

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  1. Upon completion of the subject, participants will be able to:
    A. Know the importance and advantages of using DfMA in the construction industry
    B. See the difference between the conventional method of construction vs. DfMA technique
    C. Know the obstacles why DfMA is not common in construction
  2. Upon completion of the subject, participants will:
    D. Learn the behavior of buildings during an earthquake
    E. Know the impact of earthquake to the building
    F. Identify the safety measures during the earthquake
  3. Upon completion of the subject, engineers will:
    G1. Learn the procedures in assembly the components of each prefabricated parts before the occurrence of seismic events
    G2. Learn the procedures in assembly the components of each prefabricated parts during the occurrence of seismic events
    G3. Learn how to incorporate the safety procedures in the DfMA
  4. Upon completion of the subject, engineers will:
    H1. Perform inspections of assembled components and appurtenances
    H2. Evaluate the procedure took place in the construction
