Overview of Green Building Certification Programs

Description

Green building movement stem from a pioneering work of BREEAM or BRE Environmental Assessment Method which started early 1990s. This influenced other green building rating system such as LEED, Green Star, and Green Globes. The green building movement was conceived due to need of addressing the impacts of climate change as Buildings contribute a third of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. According to a study, 75% of energy efficiency opportunity can be found in 25% of the buildings. Green building principles is founded on addressing the triple bottom line- people, planet and profit. Most of the rating systems schemes addresses areas such as energy, water, Transportation, Site Selection, Waste, Human Comfort, and Indoor Air Quality. This course will explore green building history, it’s business case, the different rating systems, impact to market transformation and its future due to technological advances.

ENTRY COMPETENCIES of Participants (Prerequisites):

This course is designed for Architects, Engineers, building owners, real estate developers, owners and agent, students and early career professionals who wish to know more and advance in the field of sustainability in built environment. This course is a prerequisite to all green building credentialing program such LEED Green Associate, LEED Accredited Professional, WELL Accredited Professional etc.

The objective of this course are as follows:

  2. Understand underlying principles of green building
  3. Provide awareness on the benefits of green building concepts
