Basic Photography: Technical and Compositional Topics

Description

This module tackles the science behind photography with topics from refraction, the properties of light, lenses, color, the circle of confusion and calculation of hyperfocal distance. It also shows the application of these scientific knowledge to digital photography. The third component of this module is about elements of composition, framing, subject placement, and image design. The learner is taught to analyze paintings and photos to compose their own photos.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of the course, the participant shall be able to:

  1. Explain the basic workings of a digital camera
    • Light and lenses
    • Focus, focal distance, hyperfocal distance

    • Depth of field, circle of confusion
    • Color and color theory
  2. Take technically correct photographs.
    • Aperture size, shutter speed, ISO and white balance for correct exposure
    • Metering
  3. Compose aesthetically pleasing photographs.
