Course Description

It teaches both the mechanics of how to design and implement a behavioral safety process in any organization and the importance of creating an environment where everyone actively cares about his or her fellow employees or associates.

It will discuss the importance of values that embraces concept of actively caring while also addressing a number of practices that are crucial to the success of a behavioral safety process. Many of these elements are quite familiar to those involved in values changing efforts. For example; discuss the importance of eliminating blame from the workplace among other negative behaviors.

The final phase of the workshop will engage the participants in a “walkthrough” on how to plan, assess, educate, implement and monitor behavioral safety process. It will clearly describe what must be done while including potential behavioral design options and issues to consider when selecting from those options.

ENTRY COMPETENCIES of Participants (Prerequisites): Any graduate of Engineering, Science, or any BS degree courses with experience on management in the workplace.

Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand basic concepts of behavior analysis;
  2. Identify components of a behavior based safety system;
  3. Understand behavior observation process;
  4. Conduct complete process of behavior based safety assessment and identify remedial measures in the workplace.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of the subject, participants will be able to:

  1. Develop a process that can identify and choose safe behavior over an unsafe one;
  2. Understand the Du Pont STOP or Safety Training Observation Program (STOP)
  3. Discuss values and practices that can improve the initial success of the organization’s behavioral safety process
  4. Make a formal study of organization’s current level of safety performance and the practices that impact safety.
  5. Understand corporate culture is the moral, social and behavioural norms of an organization, based on the beliefs, attitudes and perceptions of its employees.
  6. BBS looks at how three things interact to improve safety – Person – Work Environment – Behavior
  7. At-risk behaviors that lead to injury or fatality
  8. Develop action plan based on reported observations
  9. Understand that motivation was built on a solid corporate culture
  10. Define the process that focuses on intervention on observable behavior
  11. Identify the appropriate necessary remedial actions sustaining the BBS
